THE HEROES? PROJECT
Past Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey with Participants on the Perfect Vision and Meath Opportunities for Training HEROES? project, based in Trim. This is an ongoing project
It explores images of the male hero role model that comes to us through the media, history and mythology. By exploring the structure of the hero story we can gain insight into expectations and assumptions about the male identity in society and the role he is expected to fulfill. As a result we have been able to question the values that imbue all spheres of male activity such as sport, work and domestic life. The answers to these questions are not always obvious and they expose some flaws in the idea of what the mans role in todays world is.
